Benefits of an obedience trained dog are a happier dog and a happier human! The most common reason dogs are given up is bad behavior or lack of control. People fall in love with a cute puppy but as the puppy grows its cute factor wanes. With little dogs it is problems with house training and fear aggression. Too often owners “console”, “soothe” or “reassure” a small dog when it displays fear or aggression, inadvertently reinforcing the bad behavior. Many people think its “cute” when a little dog acts tough. But then the dog bites someone that isn’t very amused by that behavior, and it’s bye-bye doggy. With big dogs the wild, out of control behavior is even worse because of their size. Knocking the kids over, jumping up on company when they walk in the door, being unable to control the dog when they go to the Vet, etc. Early training with puppies ensures that the dog will be a well behaved pet that will be a joy to own. Older dogs coming out of a rescue benefit from obedience training in two ways. Bringing your new dog to obedience class helps with the bonding process and gets your relationship off to a great start. It also replaces its bad habits with good ones. They learning better manners and become more obedient. The time you invest in your dog in obedience training pays off with a dog that loves you, and respects you.
Our training is balanced, meaning we use a combination of positive and negative to more quickly shape your dogs behavior. New commands are taught with positive motivation, bad behaviors are corrected. By using both positive and negative, dogs learn quicker, and gain respect for their owner. Each person and dog may use the equipment that works best for them, we have no requirements, nor are there banned items. People and dogs are all different, each person and dog must be seen as a team, and they can use whatever they need to be successful with their dog.
